SNMP

the most popular network management protocol in the TCP/IP protocol suite. It is a simple request/response protocol that communicates management information between two types of SNMP software entities: SNMP applications (also called SNMP managers) and SNMP agents. SNMP lets TCP/IP-based devices to exchange information about the configuration and status of any device support snmp. The information available is defined by a set of managed objects referred to as the SNMP Management Information Base (MIB).
